UAAP Day 1 and Day 2 Report

After the first two days of UAAP Competition at Ultra, Pasig the athletes will get a well needed days rest. Before competition will resume again on the Saturday. This is different to previous years where athletes competed four days straight. Its the first time in 11 years that hand timing has been used as the electronic timing system was not brought out.  However wind gauge were used. The weather has been extremely perfect with little wind and no rain. (A typical hot Manila summer). While some athletes have complained about the track not being fast as they feel like they are sinking others have been running phenomenally on it.

Overall the outlook is that this year has been a UAAP for the girls. With last years superstar and 7 gold medalist Sereneta Saluan missing from action, so the medals were divided up a bit more evenly amongst the girls. Impressive was Hanelyn Loquinto of FEU who secured a tidy sprint 100-200 double edging her opponents in some very close races, Josie Malacad FEU who ran a big personal best to win the Womens 800m, Keizel Pedrina of UST, who finished silver in the 200 (close) and the 800 (big 4s pb). While in throws Precious De Leon of UP claimed the shotput title from defending champion Micah Sibayan of ADMU and Kenneth Grace Ferrera of FEU defeated the favourite her team mate Jennifer Penepona. All hush fell on the stadium as Palarong Pambansa Record Holder Felyn Dolloso in a return to form claimed the womens Triple Jump title by 1CM!!!.

In the Mens event National Junior record holder Jesson Ramil Cid continued to push his body and provide a dazzling performance to an excited crowd as he continued to plough through the 17 events he has been assigned to for this meet. Carlo Soriano of ADMU secured the sprint double with easy victories in the Mens 100-200m. Jose Unso ended the 6 month winning streak of Emmanuel Delos Angeles in the 110 Hurdles. And Wenlie Maulas battled a bad ankle to retain his 800m title.
