The 28th edition of the SEA Games will be held in Singapore in 2015, from June 5 to 16 at the new Singapore Sports Hub, which was only finished this 2nd quarter of 2014.
Similar to the 2005 Manila edition, a Games Village will not be built. Instead, a “village in the city” concept will see athletes and officials housed in 20 hotels in Downtown Singapore. Besides being physically near to the Singapore Sports Hub, it is hoped that it will add vibe to the city and reduce post-games costs in converting a dedicated games village to other uses.
As of this writing, there are 36 approved sports discipline to be contested by the 11 nation members.
It will be interesting to see the performances of athletes in endurance sports since the Games will be held in a month that with high humidity. Usually, SEA Games are held during the “BER” months where cooler weather prevails in the South East Asian Region.
Moreover, it is doubly interesting for Track and Field Athletes as June is usually not a “peak” month as far as performance is concerned. Traditionally, IAAF-sactioned meets culminate during August to September.
Last 2013 edition, the Philippines finished with a 6-4-3 medal tally in Athletics and wounded up 4th behind Thailand, Vietnam and Indonesia. Can the Philippines improve on its performance? 209 days left before we find out!
