The world’s top athletes with different types of disabilites converge at London from August 29 to September 9. And the UK, being considered as the birthplace of the Paralympic movement, a high profile Games is expected.
The Philippines sent nine (9) athletes to this Games, including four that will compete in athletics. They are:
1. Marites Burce, who is confined to a wheelchair due to polio, will compete in the javelin, discuss and shotput;
2. Isidro Vildosola, a one armed runner, will compete in the 1,500m;
3. Andy Avellana, with only one leg, will compete in the high jump; and
4. Roger Tapia, with only one arm, will compete in the 100m and 200m sprints.
The other athletes are: Josephine Medina(table tennis), Bea Roble (swimming), Jinkee Guion (powerlifting), Adeline Ancheta (powerlifting) and Agustin Kitan (powerlifting).
