The Palarong Pambansa started today with the Track and Field and surprisingly results are already up on the DECS site.
The highlight of the meet so far was a record that fell on the first day of competition in the womens Javelin Throw 18 year old Stephanie Cimatu of Ilocos through the Javelin 41.27m. Just shy of her personal best 42.34m which she established at asian youths in Malaysia last year. Too defeat Evalyn Palabrica of Western Visayas.
In the Mens Long Jump 17 year old Gerald Layumas of WVRAA took the mens long jump title with a narrow 1cm win leaping 6.86m to edge out Julian Fuentes of CAVRAA 6.85m. Layumas who is coached by RV Alvarez who was also instrumental in the development of Palaro Triple Jump Record Holder Felyn Doloso. Layumas is also a very talented soccer player and has been offered a soccer scholarship to DLSU Taft in Manila.
Meanwhile in the Mens Shotput Ralph Gesulgon of WVRAA won gold in mens shotput in 13.68m while team mate Richie Cabanyog was second with 13.48m, both boys erasing the 13.19m Palaro Record.
